where to turn your face
Oh Muslim. Oh human being. Oh honoured member of the final community - the ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him).
Do you realise your position in this world?
Do you know that you are a representative (khalifa) of Islam?
Do you know who your Prophet is?
He (Peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is the best of creation, the beloved of Allah, the reason why this universe was created. Can any of us really fathom that?
He is the owner of the highest point in creation, he passed beyond the utmost boundary into the presence of Allah. He is honoured and praiseworthy by his name alone - Muhammad.
Can anyone defile his blessed character when he is protected by the Creator of all things? Do the actions of any lowly creature have an effect on him, or debase him? No, it is impossible, so why do we not draw closer to him? Why must we always be reactive instead of proactive? Apologetic instead of proud?
It seems so simple, when we know these facts, and the plan truth is so obvious, that we exert every effort in gaining proximity to him (Peace and blessings be upon him). We must take pride in the blessed sunnah (tradition) of Allah's messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him).
Lately I was pleased to hear something which had never crossed my mind; since his is the highest position in paradise, then all other positions in heaven are in relation to our proximity to him - i.e. whoever loves him most will be closest to him in paradise, and also in Hellfire, those who are furthest from him will be deepest in the blaze.
It is such a compelling image.
He (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
'Not one of you truly believes until I become more beloved to him then himself, his father, his son and all humanity'.
Our position in the afterlife is directly dependent upon our position to him and love for him (peace and blessing be upon him and his family) in this life, and the closer we are to him, the closer we are to Allah.
Do we not testify daily:
'There is no deity other than Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah'?
To bear witness to his prophethood is not just by words - it is by action. We act upon what he commanded us to do. We stay away from what he forbade us from. In this way alone can our faith be expressed in a practical fashion.
Don't the hypocrites say things that they do not do? Isn't it a little hypocritical to bear witness to Islam and not to submit ourselves physically?
That is the situation for many of us. I advise myself and you to take check of our own lives. To what extent do we live up to our Prophet (Peace be upon him)?
Remember, dear reader, that we will come face to face with him one day. What will we say then? Where will we turn our faces?

Your reference to Khalifa in the article is incorrect. In the Qur'an there are references using "Khalaifa fi Alard" and other's using the words "khalaifa alard", both having it's own meaning and differing from the other.
There is also Khalaf. Allow me to present the differences.
The ayhas in the Quran that use the word "Khalaifa", is jama3 khalifa, and khalifa refers to the ruler or king and not the people or individual. Hence the meaning changes in its reference to power, governance etc.
The word that applies to the average Muslim (ie non rulers) is khalaf, and even that cannot be in honesty translated as representative. We as Muslims are much much more than representatives. If we accept the role that has been assigned to us, should be ready to lead the whole of humanity into the new age, into the light and consequently, the end.
